Most job seekers in Tanzania skip LinkedIn, or set up a profile once and never touch it again. People who get hired through LinkedIn treat it like a second CV that works while they sleep.

You do not need many connections or a fancy title. You need a profile a recruiter says yes to in under 30 seconds.

Step 1: Fix Your Photo and Headline First

1. Use a clear, recent photo, face visible. A phone photo against a plain wall is enough.
2. Replace the default headline with what you actually do or want to do.

Step 2: Write an About Section That Is Easy to Scan

Nobody reads a wall of text on a phone. Keep it short:

1. One line on what you do or want.
2. Two or three lines on your key skills.
3. One line inviting people to connect.

Skip generic lines like “hardworking and passionate.” Be specific.

Step 3: Fill In Your Experience Properly

List everything relevant, internships, volunteer work, part-time jobs, university projects. For each, write one line about what you actually did.

“Handled customer service and managed daily sales records” tells more than just “Sales Assistant.”

Step 4: Add Skills Recruiters Search For

Recruiters search by skill. Add every genuine skill you have, software, languages, anything.

Step 5: Turn On “Open to Work”

This tells recruiters you are actively looking, without announcing it publicly. Show it only to recruiters to stay discreet if you are employed.

Step 6: Connect With Real People

Send requests to classmates, past colleagues, and recruiters you like, with a short note explaining why. A personal note gets accepted far more often.

Step 7: Post or Comment Occasionally

You do not need to post daily. Commenting on industry posts, or sharing a short update, keeps your profile active and visible.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

1. Using the default gray photo or a group photo.
2. Writing a headline that is just your job title.
3. Listing titles with no description of what you did.
4. Setting up the profile once and never logging in again.
