How to Search for Jobs Online in Tanzania Without Falling for Fake Offers

2 min read

A message arrives. “Congratulations! You are selected. Send TZS 20,000 for the form and you can start Monday.”

Your heart jumps. Then you stop and ask: is this real?

Here is the first rule to remember: a real employer does not ask you to pay to get a job. No form fee. No training fee. No “security” fee. If someone asks for money, walk away.

Red flags of a fake job offer

  • They ask you to pay money before you start.
  • The job pays very well for very little work.
  • You never met anyone, and the “interview” is only a chat message.
  • The email address ends in gmail.com or yahoo.com, but they say they are a big company.
  • They push you to decide fast. “Pay today or lose the job.”
  • They ask for your ID, bank details or passwords before any written offer.

7 safe steps to look for real jobs online

  1. Start on official pages. Go to the company website and look for a Careers or Jobs page.
  2. Check the company. Search its name on Google and LinkedIn. Does it have a real address, a real website and real people?
  3. Search the company name with the word “scam”. See what others say.
  4. Check the email address. A real company usually writes from its own address, for example name”company.co.tz.
  5. Ask for a call or an interview in person. Visit the office if you can. Tell a friend or family member where you are going.
  6. Share personal papers only after a written offer. Even then, send only what is needed, and only to an address you checked.
  7. Never pay to get a job. Never. Not even a small amount.

Where to look for real jobs

Look on the official career pages of companies you know, on LinkedIn, in newspaper job notices, through your school or college career office, and on official government recruitment pages. Always open the page yourself. Do not trust a link sent in a random message.

If it feels too good to be true, stop and check. A real job will still be there after you check.
