How to Save Data and Use Less Bundle When Working Online

2 min read

Your bundle finishes before the day is over. You try to answer a customer, or join a class, and you see “no data”.

Often the data is not used by your work. It is used by things running in the background. Here are 9 simple ways to keep your bundle for what matters.

1. Check which apps use the most data

Open your phone Settings. Find Data usage or Mobile data. You will see a list of apps and how much data each one used. Look at the top three. You may be surprised.

2. Turn on Data Saver

Many phones have a Data Saver mode in Settings. It stops many apps from using data in the background.

3. Stop videos from playing by themselves

On Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, turn off autoplay for videos in the settings. Or set it to play only on Wi-Fi.

4. Stop WhatsApp from downloading everything

In WhatsApp, go to Settings, then Storage and data. Under Media auto-download, choose to download nothing on mobile data. Then photos and videos only download when you tap them.

5. Lower the video quality

On YouTube and other apps, choose a lower quality like 360p. For a talk or a lesson, you often do not need a sharp picture.

6. Download on Wi-Fi, watch later

If you have Wi-Fi at home, work or school, download videos, lessons and files there. Watch them later without using bundle.

7. Update apps only on Wi-Fi

In your app store settings, choose to update apps only on Wi-Fi.

8. Save your files offline

Use Google Drive or Google Docs offline mode for files you need often. Download the map of your area in Google Maps so you can use it without data.

9. Close apps you are not using

Apps left open can keep using data. Close them when you finish.

Data is money. Spend it on work and customers, not on videos you did not choose to watch.

Quick checklist

  • Look at the data usage list this week
  • Data Saver turned on
  • Autoplay and WhatsApp auto-download turned off
  • Big downloads and updates done on Wi-Fi
